Cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com is now the most downloaded app in the U.S. Google Play Store across every category.
According to the latest list of Google Play Store’s most popular free apps, Crypto.com’s app has risen in the ranks of apps based on the number of downloaded to move to the first place ahead of TikTok. After the announcement by the trading platform that it would be partnering up with the Dallas Mavericks basketball club, Coinbase’s app is third place ahead of Cash App. Voyager Digital is tenth.
Crypto.com’s popularity is likely due to the release of an ad campaign featuring Matt Damon, who is arguably the most famous celebrity to endorse a cryptocurrency exchange. The “fortune favors brave” ad was launched last week and aims to reach a global audience of potential investors and crypto users.
The number of downloads for a company’s app could be viewed as an indicator of market interest. While Crypto.com currently holds the top position on the Google Play Store, the exchange’s app was the third most downloaded on the U.S. Apple App Store last week — it has since fallen to the twentieth position. Though the campaign featuring Damon likely contributed to the price of the native Crypto.com Coin (CRO) rising to a six-month high of $0.2294 on Oct. 29, the token has dropped roughly 7% to reach $0.2134 at the time of publication.
